25th Year of Lee High School Wrestling
1969-94
The 1993-94 Wrestling Team finished
with a 8-5 dual meet record with three of
their losses coming at the hands of cross-town
rival Catholic High. The Rebels participated in
eight tournaments during the season finishing
fourth in the City Tournament and second in the
Regional Tournament. Lee had seven state
qualifiers compete in the state tournament in
Lafayette last February.
This years team was made up of a good mix
of wrestlers: four seniors, three juniors, seven
sophomores and three freshman.
Senior Ryan Dicharry and junior Chad
Cameron were chosen by their teammates as
permanent team Co-Captains for the season and they both were very deserving of the honor. The
sophomore class has some outstanding wrestlers
that could be very tough in the near future if
they keep working hard to improve themselves.
First year wrestler Scott Boutte, qualified for
state and placed in four varsity tournaments
while winning the JV City title and the N State
title. Keitric Barber, a second year wrestler and
first year letterman, fought his weight early in
the season but came on to go undefeated in JV matches (12-0) and placed second in
JV State,
while qualifying for state in varsity. Mike Gabel, a first year letterman worked hard to make
the varsity lineup and once he got there nothing
was going to move him out. Mike proved to be
very much improved from his freshman year as
he placed in three varsity tournaments, came in
second in JV state and lead the team in 2 point
near-falls (15) and tied with Ryan for 3 point
near-falls (20). Tim LaTour is a two year wrestler and lettered for the first time this season
with places in three varsity tournaments and four JV tournaments. Chad Cameron a second year
letterman was second in varsity wins (30), and
placed in seven of ten tournaments this year.
Chad was much improved over last year as he
became more of a leader and more physical. He
finished second in the City and Regional tournaments. Next year should be Chad's year with
more strength and experience. Jason Broussard, a first year wrestler also lettered this year,
gained valuable experience during the season while finishing firth in the
region. Three freshmen Nick Demuro, Simon Vixathep and Chad
Cedatol all looked good as they all placed in JV tournaments. Junior Chris Jones along with
sophomores Tim Rodrigue, Kevin Trouillier
and Dereck McIntyre should help fill out the
lineup next year.
Seniors
- 1993-94
Matt Accardo
(112, 119, 130)
A three year wrestler, and a two year letterman,
Matt improved a great deal from his junior year to
his senior year. He led the team in reversals with
36. Matt placed in four tournaments but really
came on strong late in the season, finishing third
in the City Tournament and third in the Regional
Tournament while qualifying for the state meet
his first time. Matt also lettered in cross-country.
Ryan Dicharry
(112,135,140,140)
A four year wrestler, and three year letterman,
Ryan placed fourth or better in 10 of 11 tournaments this season winning the
Capitol and the Regional tournaments. Ryan was voted Co-Captain
by his teammates, and selected 1st Team 4-5A
All-District and 2nd Team All-Metro by the city-coaches. He developed his "Gene Mills Half" to
lead the team with 43 wins, 28 pins, 15 near-falls,
67 takedowns, and 84 lettering points. He had 88
career wins with 53 pins. Ryan qualified for state
for the second year in a row and placed fourth at
the State Tournament. Ryan also lettered 3 years
in cross-country.
Leumas Robertson
(145, 152)
A two year wrestler, and a one year letterman.
Leumas showed great potential as a tenth grader
on the team for the first time, but didn't
participate his junior year which really hurt him
as far as experience was concerned. Physically
strong and quick, Leumas finished his senior year
with 24 wins, 11 pins and was third in team
lettering points.
Leumas also lettered in track for two years.
Seneca Taylor
(189 & Hwt)
A three year wrestler and a two year letterman.
Seneca started wrestling at Baton Rouge High in
the ninth grade and came to Lee his sophomore year. He improved a great deal his senior year
while having probably had the toughest weight
class in the city, but still finished with 26 wins
and 15 pins. He qualified for state for the second
time and finished sixth. Seneca won the St. Marks Tournament in Dallas and placed fourth or
better in five other tournaments while leading the
team with the most escapes (47), his senior year.
Seneca also lettered in football.
