Venus, Glaspie win titles

KENNER — Bossier High School's Koree Venus and Benton's Jordyn Glaspie won state wrestling championships here on Sunday.
Venus won the Division III 120-pound state wrestling championship. He defeated North Vermilion's Austin, Scalisi, 12-2, in the semifinals to reach the championship. Venus defeated Brusly's Wyatt LeJeune, 10-8, to claim the title.
Glaspie defeated Daniel Kincaide of Northside in the semifinals, 4-2, and St. Michael's Logan Patty.
Six other area wrestlers reached the championship match in their respective divisions before losing.
Byrd's Andrew Martin reached the finals in Division I's 152-pound division before falling to Catholic's Brandon Luckett, 18-6.
Parkway's Joseph Bussiere finished second in Division II's 170-pound weight division after losing to JeanLuc Guilbeau of Teurlings Catholic, 8-2.
Bossier's Jalen Oliver was second in the 170-pound class of Division III after losing to Redemptorist's Hunter Arnett, 10-3.
Minden's Bryant Stansberry was second in Division II's 132-pound weight division after losing to Teurlings' Nick Schneider via pin.
Bossier's Timothy Johnson was second in the Division III 132-pound weight division. He lost in the finals to Rayne's Bill Marcantel, 15-11.
Calvary's Tyler Sullivan was the runner-up in Division III's 195-pound weight division, losing 8-0 to Redemptorist's Brandon Arnett.
Brother Martin won Division I with 283 points. Byrd finished ninth with 95.5 points.
In Division II, Teurlings won the meet with 277 points. Parkway was seventh at 140 points. Benton was ninth with 112 points. Huntington was 12th at 64 points.
Minden finished 20th with 28 points.
In Division III, Brusly won the title with 251 points. Bossier was fourth with 193 points. Calvary was ninth with 83 points and Evangel was 10th with 82. Doyline was 12th with 44 points. Lakeside was 16th with 32 points and North DeSoto was 20th with 13 points.
