The junior pinned three opponents, then routed Bossier's Oscar Telles, 18-2, in the finals this weekend to win the Division-III 132-pound bracket and help lead his young Panthers team to a ninth team state championship in the past 10 years.

Brother Martin, wrestling

Klein, a sophomore, was the top seed in the 120-pound class in Division I and was named most outstanding wrestler in his class in his performance in winning a second consecutive individual state championship and helping Brother Martin to a second consecutive team championship. Klein, who won at 106 pounds last year, recorded a pin in his first match before getting back-to-back major decisions to put him into the finals. He pinned Comeaux’s Jacob Dale in 1:08 in the finals.

Thomas Jefferson, wrestling

Griffin, a sophomore, pinned his way into the finals and then upset the top seed as he won the 106-pound weight class in Division III on Saturday. He started his tournament with a 22-second pin of Evangel’s Hayden Shankle and followed that up with pins over Taylor Harrington of Kaplan (1:26) and Episcopal’s Will Medick (4:26). In the finals, Griffin went up against top-seeded Prentice Spurlock of Curtis and Griffin earned a 4-2 decision for the state championship.

Destrehan, wrestling

Rae Juan Marbley finished third in his 220-pound weight class at last week's state tournament. The junior, who is his third year of wrestling, pinned Brother Martin's Joshua Tapia in 2:14. He fell to eventual overall winner, Sulphur’s Ora Wayne Broussard, earlier in the tournament.

"Rae Juan moves like a lightweight," Coach Clay Harding said. "You can't catch him."

St. Paul’s, wrestling

In winning the 132-pound Division I state championship last weekend, Campo, a senior, finished the season with a 45-0 record, his second consecutive undefeated season against in-state competition. Campo defeated Rick LaCava of Rummel in the final by pinfall. Campo won the state title his junior year in the 126-pound class.
