CRUSADERS, JAYS IMPRESS AGAINST TOP FIELD
Facing superb competition from around the country, defending state champion Brother Martin and perennial power Jesuit (Division I) displayed their quality. Fighting past excellent teams, the Catholic school duo advanced to the quarterfinal eight-team championship bracket of the Deep South Bayou Duals at the Baton Rouge River Center Exhibition Hall. The Crusaders won four dual meets to advance as the champion of Pool H while Jesuit took five matches to win Pool B.
Catholic High of Baton Rouge remained alive as well, taking home the title in Pool C by winning four matches.
Others advancing included Clay High (Florida), Jefferson City (Missouri), MacArthur (Oklahoma), Phoenix High (New York) and Platte County (Missouri).
Four Louisiana schools finished second in their pools.
Clay defeated Rummel 54-15 to win Pool G. Phoenix defeated Live Oak 62-9 to win Pool D. MacArthur blanked Teurlings Catholic 68-0 to win Pool E. Platte County downed St. Paul's 37-32 to win Pool F.
The tournament concludes Saturday.
