WOLVES DEN ON THE MAT
St. Paul's continues to own the north shore in wrestling.
The Wolves captured another 6-5A district title Saturday at Fontainbleau, defeating the host Bulldogs, Mandeville and Covington in dual meets. St. Paul's handled Mandevlle 67-4, downed Covington 57-21 and defeated Fontainebleau 65-12.
Chris Meraux (120) and Tanner LeBlanc (160) won all three matches wrestled for the Wolves to lead the charge. Defending state champion Connor Campo (138) and Trey LeBlanc (145) each had a pair of pins in their two matches. Jordan Peterson (170) won both of his matches as well.
Wolves head coach Craig Ketelsen was ecstatic with his team's performance.
"The wrestlers did a great job, many facing the challenge of being up a weight class as well as a tough district opponent," Ketelsen said. "I felt we set the tone early with some big wins vs. Mandeville. Zach Clay, Tanner LeBlanc, Jordan Peterson, and Zach Mangrum all defeated very tough Mandeville opponents. Two of our Seniors, Trey Leblanc and Quinn Perret, have added consistent quality performances through the first half of the season."
St. Paul's returns to action in the Louisiana Classic in Baton Rouge January 18-19.
