CRUSADERS IN DOMINANT POSITION
To no one's surprise, Brother Martin took control of the Louisiana Classic after one day, grabbing a solid lead over Jesuit and Catholic High.
The Crusaders posted 156 points while Jesuit is second with 120.5 points. Catholic is third with 120 points. Holy Cross is fourth with 83.5 points with St. Paul's fifth with 81 points and Rummel sixth at 71 points in the 54 team event at the ExerFit Center in Baton Rouge. The Crusaders advanced nine of its 14 wrestlers to the semifinals to lead all teams while Jesuit has seven in the round of four. Catholic got six wrestlers through to the semifinals, Holy Cross has two while St. Paul's and Rummel each have three competitors still alive for championship honors.
For Brother Martin, Paul Klein (122), Austin Meyn (128), Dominic Casadaban (140), Devin LeBlanc (154), Jordan Giroir (162), Daniel Albrecht (172), Kyle Delaune (184), Josh Tapia (222) and Ross Brister (287) are in the semifinals.
For Jesuit, Ben D'Antonio (108), Mitch Capella (115), Gaston Eymard (140), Efosa Egboibe (147), Jimmy Brown (172), Gage Grush (184) and Manny Armour (197) advanced to the semifinals.
For Catholic, Mitch Napoli (115), Brennan Taylor (128), Matthew Mire (134), James Claitor (140), Brandon Luckett (162) and Myles Nash (222) reached the semifinals.
For Holy Cross, defending state champion Alex Nicosia (122) and Daniel Relayson (197) are in the semifinals.
For St. Paul's, defending state champion Connor Campo (134), David Englehardt (140) and Dominic Iovenitti (147) moved into the semifinals.
For Rummel, defending state champion Matt Calcote (128), Rick LaCava (134) and Michael Darwin (172) are in the semifinals.
