JAYS WIN BALANCED AFFAIR

 

Two of the top Division I wrestling teams in the state squared off in a dual meet in Covington Wednesday night with Jesuit downing St. Paul's 42-28.

 

The two teams split five of the 10 matches contested with the Blue Jays building a winning margin on the strength of three forfeit wins while St. Paul's captured one forfeit win.

Jesuit wrestlers scoring pins included fast rising Nicky Charles (106), Dominic Carmello (220) and Zachary Creel (285).

 

St. Paul's wrestlers scoring pins included defending state champion Connor Campo (138) and Jordan Peterson (170).

 

Perhaps the best match of the evening was at 152 pounds with Jesuit's Ashton Queyrouze scoring a 6-5 win over Dominic Iovenitti of the Wolves.

 

St. Paul's moves on to the St. Tammany Open Tournament this weekend before the state meet on February 15-16 at the Pontchartrain Center while Jesuit moves on to the state tournament.
