| Bill Bofinger attended Lee High School as a student. He was a letterman in basketball and a three-year letterman in both track and football. He was selected to the High School All Star Football Team and was voted their captain. He was captain of the Lee High Football team and was voted Most Valuable Player, Best Defensive Lineman as a sophomore, and Best Offensive Lineman as a junior. Coach Bofinger graduated from LSU where he was a 2-year letterman in football under Charlie McClendon. He played in the Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. After graduation he began teaching at Lee High School and has been here since 1969. He started the wrestling program at Lee High School. Under his direction he has taken his team to City Champions ten times. He was selected the Greater Baton Rouge Area Coach of the Decade for the 1970’s with 6 team titles and 1 runner up finish. He formed the Baton Rouge Area Wrestling Coaches Association and the Louisiana Wrestling Coaches Association. He formed the All Metro Wrestling Team. He has hosted the Lee High School Invitational Wrestling Tournament since 1973, which has been mentioned in Wrestling USA magazine as having the premier tournaments of Louisiana each year. | Coach Bofinger likes to keep statistics and records as
a hobby. He has compiled a history of city and regional meets that he makes
available to the host team each year. He has a compiled a History of State
Tournaments in Louisiana from 1945 to present. The publication is copy-righted and
available at the Library of Congress in Washington. It can be bought from
him; please see the order page in this web site. In 2005 Coach Bofinger was elected to the Louisiana Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, joining Coach Sam Harnsongkram, and being jointly inducted with Sam Sara. A banner has been posted in the Lee High gymnasium in honor of the recognition, and a plaque will be placed in his honor at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
